Abion announces its intention to apply for the .abion generic top-level domain (gTLD) as part of ICANN’s upcoming application window. The initiative represents a significant strategic investment and reinforces Abion’s ambition to operate at the forefront of the global domain name industry.

As a long-standing ICANN-accredited registrar and trusted provider of domain management and consulting services, Abion has extensive, hands-on experience with the gTLD programme. The company has advised clients on domain strategies for many years and continues to support organisations as they prepare their own dotBrand applications. The decision to pursue .abion is a natural extension of that work and a clear demonstration of its commitment to lead from the front.

At its core, the .abion initiative is about ownership, control, and long-term value creation. Operating at the registry level will enable Abion to take greater control of its digital infrastructure, futureproof its business, and establish a secure and trusted namespace. By consolidating its digital identity under .abion, the company aims to significantly reduce risks related to spoofing and fraud while creating a clear and verifiable environment for communications and engagement.

The move also marks an important step in strengthening Abion’s advisory capabilities. First-hand experience from applying for and ultimately operating a dotBrand TLD will further enhance the company’s ability to guide clients through similar strategic decisions, grounded in practical insight as well as technical expertise.

Beyond infrastructure and advisory benefits, the .abion TLD represents a rare and valuable digital asset. It positions Abion as a forward-thinking leader in the domain space, supports its ambition to be recognised among the world’s leading registrars, and creates new opportunities for innovation in how the company connects with clients and partners.

“This is a big commitment for Abion and I am very excited about the opportunities it will create. We have long advised clients to carefully evaluate the opportunities within the gTLD programme. By pursuing .abion, we are demonstrating our belief in the long-term value of owning and operating a dedicated namespace, while strengthening our ability to support clients with first-hand experience."
