What Will be Covered in the Webinar?
The ICANN new gTLD application window has now closed, with more than 1,600 primary string applications reportedly submitted. While ICANN won’t publish the full list of applied-for strings until October, applicants are already beginning to publicly disclose their applications, including strings such as .cancel, .footwear, .livestream, .socialmedia and a range of .brand applications.
For brand owners, this is more than an indication of what the 2026 round may bring, it is a signal to start preparing.
Once the full list is published, companies will need to assess whether any applied-for string is an exact match, sufficiently similar, to an existing company, brand or product name, and determine whether action is required. This includes having a clear, documented domain name policies in place covering:
- Which domains they intend to register defensively
- Where domain blocking opportunities may be appropriate
- Which strings and domains require ongoing monitoring
- Who is responsible for making registration and enforcement decisions
